What do you grow inside your greenhouse? We transplanted salad greens, peppers, tomatoes, etc. from plugs that had been started in the house. Grew them out and transplanted to the garden. Then, started perpetual spinach, beets, green beans and a mesclun mix for the second planting in the greenhouse. We also included a patch of pollinator flowers.
How did your Planta Greenhouse improve your gardening experience? We've been growing vegetables, herbs and flowers for our local food bank, Fare Share, for a few years. With the addition of the greenhouse we almost doubled our giving last year. Our own freezer was full too. We gave 1839 lbs. in 2024, almost a ton! We are still learning how the greenhouse fits into the picture. We hope to start more plants in the greenhouse when it gets warm enough and do a lot of succession plantings of mesclun mix, perpetual spinach, and beets.
What was your experience like buying from Planta Greenhouses? Easy to buy. Customer service was good. They referred us to two people in our part of the province who had Planta Greenhouses, so we could visit them and discuss the building process. The diagrams were not all that great and we struggled for a while, but finally got it done.
What type of upgrades you've done? Tell us about your most innovative DIY solutions added to your greenhouse. We attached 3 wire mesh shelves about half way up the side walls. They hold a tray of 36 plugs each. We could use more of them. They work great for starting seeds. For flooring we installed ⅝" rubber matting for comfort.
What's your favorite thing about your Planta Greenhouse? The greenhouse helped us to increase production of vegetables - a key component of our succession planting scheme.
